Job Summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Salaried Dental Service Oral Surgery Team carrying out Tier 2 level procedures within Cheshire and Merseyside. They will support the Clinical Director and Oral surgery lead in the delivery of minor oral surgery contracts in a salaried primary dental care setting for patients referred from local dental practitioners. The post holder will work alongside Senior dental officers and specialists in Oral Surgery so that they can develop their own skills with mentoring always at hand.
Main Duties of the Job
- Providing tier 2 outpatient minor oral surgery for patients at clinic sites across Cheshire and Merseyside (Warrington, Halton & St Helens, Western Cheshire, Vale Royal and Sandbach).
- Extractions of single and multi-rooted erupted teeth beyond the skill level of a general dentist.
- Removal of buried roots and fractured or residual root fragments.
- Routine third molar surgery removal of simple impacted teeth.
- Management of acute infection.
- Treatment may be carried out using local anaesthetic with or without intravenous sedation (usually as operator seditionist).
- To liaise with existing specialist senior dental officers over management of cases and service development, including the development and implementation of best practice within Clinical Networks.

Job Responsibilities
- To provide outpatient minor oral surgery for patients at clinic sites across Cheshire and Merseyside (Warrington, Halton & St Helens, Western Cheshire, Vale Royal and Sandbach) as required by service need.
- Extractions of single and multi-rooted erupted teeth beyond the skill level of a general dentist.
- Removal of buried roots and fractured or residual root fragments.
- Routine third molar surgery removal of simple impacted teeth.
- Management of acute infection.
- Treatment may be carried out using local anaesthetic with or without intravenous sedation (usually as operator seditionist).
- To provide advice and assistance to other staff and referring practitioners as required.
- To liaise with existing specialist senior dental officers over management of cases and service development.
- Complete FP17 forms for patients and determine which band the course of treatment falls into.
- To ensure referring practitioners receive adequate feedback following assessment and treatment.
- To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes as required.
- To participate in clinical governance, peer review and audit as required.
- To ensure all patient records are of a high standard and kept in accordance with Organisational Policies.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential: Provision of routine exodontia for adults and children
Desirable: Experience of working in an oral surgery department; Treatment using Intravenous sedation
Skills and Attributes
Essential: Able to carry out routine exodontia and minor oral surgery to a high standard; Good verbal and written communication skills; Good organisational skills; Ability to manage own workload; Basic IT skills; Knowledge of professional standards; Ability to work as a member of a large team; Ability to use electronic dental patient records system; Knowledge of FP17s, treatment banding and patient charges.
Desirable: Use of Dentally dental software
Qualifications
Essential: BDS or equivalent; Full GDC registration
Desirable: Certificate/Diploma in conscious sedation or equivalent; NHS performer number; Accreditation in oral surgery
