[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Clinical Fellow in Renal Medicine at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], Tooting, London. This is a fixed-term, part-time contract (6 months) with salary £52,656 to £65,048 a year. Closing date: 19 May 2026.

Job Summary

An interesting opportunity has arisen at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Renal Medicine and Transplantation unit, which will provide the appropriate candidate with high level training, not only in all essential aspects of Renal Medicine but also in transplantation and academia in a university environment. This means that the successful candidate may have the opportunity of participating in cutting edge research, quality improvement projects and also be provided with teaching opportunities depending on aptitude and level of experience.

Main Duties of the Job

The appointee will be an important component of the Nephrology team and will have duties associated with the full range of Nephrology patients. These include admitted patients with a wide variety of renal conditions/transplantation; patients on maintenance haemodialysis peritoneal dialysis and renal transplants. The unit provides an excellent opportunity to learn about renal transplantation.

Components of the post will be in clinics, ward work, dialysis support, acute and chronic transplant care. The post holder may also have a commitment with the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] as an educator. The post will be non-resident 1 in 6; out-of-hours duties will include responsibility for all renal patients. The successful candidate will be on call with a medicine SHO, surgical junior and two consultants (renal medicine and surgery-transplantation).

About Us

The Renal Service at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] provides a comprehensive integrated Nephrology service including kidney transplantation. As with most renal units there is strong multidisciplinary team working. The Renal/Transplant Ward is fully plumbed for dialysis and has a separate acute dialysis area.

The unit has an active living donor and deceased transplant programme. This has been enhanced by offering hand assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal nephrectomy. The renal unit is part of an expanding service and is a centre of excellence for the placement of complex vascular access. There are daily consultant-led transplant, general nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and weekly advanced kidney care clinics. Specialist clinics are held in; clinical genetics (tuberous sclerosis), diabetic nephropathy, renal stones, paediatric-adult transition, preconception counselling/pregnancy clinics and kidney-heart failure clinic. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] also has a strong track record in education: Educational Opportunities include Grand rounds in the Monckton lecture theatre every Thursday, Academic meetings Tuesday mornings, in-house educational sessions on the renal curriculum and journal club on Wednesday afternoons. There are also quarterly morbidity and mortality meetings, regular MDTs such as the Friday morning Network meeting and the Wednesday morning A-Z Transplant meeting, regular audits and cross specialty educational sessions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Full registration with GMC; Evidence of completion of Renal training ST1/2 competencies; MRCP - PACES
  • Desirable: Experience in managing patients on renal replacement therapy

Knowledge & Skills

  • Essential: Aware of own limitations and knows when to ask for help from seniors or colleagues; Understands principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
  • Desirable: Experience of audit; Previous experience in managing acutely unwell patients; Computer literate

Maintaining Clinical Competence

  • Essential: Potential to benefit from the experience and training offered by the post
  • Desirable: Has a critical and inquiring approach to knowledge and experience

Teaching & Research
