Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year (Band 5)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Job Summary: We are looking for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist to join the team in this busy laboratory, which offers experience in a wide range of histological techniques. The role may include routine Histology, dissection, Immunocytochemistry, Electron Microscopy, Neuropathology and Non-Gynaecological Cytology.
Main Duties of the Job
- Transfer of histology samples
- Embedding and microtomy of histology blocks
- Staining and quality control of Histology slides
- Tinctorial special stains
- Neuropathology techniques
- Immunocytochemistry preparation for differential diagnosis of cancer
- Potential training in dissection

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Essential: UK biomedical Science Degree
- Essential: HCPC registration
- Desirable: IBMS membership
Knowledge and Experience
- Essential: Experience of employment and working in a UK Cellular Pathology laboratory as a BMS for more than 6 months
- Essential: Experience and working knowledge with a UK Pathology LIMS system
- Essential: Experience and working knowledge of a UK QMS system with UKAS UK accreditation
- Essential: Experience of performing routine histology, special staining manual and automated techniques, frozen sections, bone dissection, immunohistochemistry varying platforms, non gynae cytology
- Desirable: Neuropathology experience
- Desirable: Electron microscopy preparation and scanning
Skills and Abilities
- Essential: Substantial experience in all routine aspects of Cellular Pathology
- Essential: Experience in training others in Cellular Pathology techniques
- Essential: Ability and evidence of organising and prioritising personal workload to ensure targets are met
- Essential: Evidence of good interpersonal skills
- Essential: Evidence of good communication skills and attention to detail
