Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) - Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Department at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join the team part time.

Working within the Pharmacy main dispensary and on the wards, the post will involve ordering and dispensing medications for in-patients and those being discharged from hospital. You must be able to work as a team member and on an individual basis.

Core working hours are Wednesday and Friday, 8:30-17:00, and 3 hours on a Thursday.You will also participate in a Sunday rota, working 10:00-13:00. Some flexibility may be considered.

Main duties of the job

Previous Pharmacy experience and an NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services, or other recognised dispensing qualification is essential for the Band 3 grade, together with competent IT skills and good basic education including English and Maths to GCSE level.

A progression / training role will be considered if you do not have the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services. Support will be given to complete the NVQ 2 on a Band 2 grade with Band 3 grade being awarded on completion of qualification.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

  • Essential: English and Maths GCSE grade C or above, NVQ and Btec level 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Desirable: Completion of a recognised OTC sales course

Experience

  • Essential: Experience in hospital pharmacy or other Pharmacy Setting, Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
  • Desirable: JAC trained, Experience with clinical trials, Experience with Aseptic preparation

Skills Ability and Knowledge

  • Essential: Knowledge of Pharmacy working procedures and current drugs legislation, Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations including COSHH, Good communication skills (written and oral), Basic computer skills, Ability to prioritise workload with good attention to detail and accuracy, Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills, Ability to work under pressure
  • Desirable: Existing personal development portfolio

Salary: £25,760 to £27,476 a year per annum pro rata
