Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse - Haematology

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an experienced Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join their specialist Haematology team within the Duchess of Devonshire Wing Cancer Centre. This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours/week) role based in London.

Job Summary

To participate in the Duchess of Devonshire Wing (DDW) bleep holder scheme. To take responsibility for individualised patient care, using the Roper Logan & Tierney model of care and documentation for the department. To promote the partnership between nursing staff, patients and their care. To attend and participate in department meetings. Ensure that all aspects of confidentiality are upheld in relation to patient/employee records in accordance with the Clinic's Data Protection Policy.

Main Duties of the Job

To assist the Manager in ensuring the department is efficiently and effectively managed at all times. To be responsible for the delivery of the highest standards of care and services. To maintain specialist training and experience in stem cell transplantation as detailed in the FACT-JACIE accreditation standards B3.700 (2008).

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality, individualised care to haematology and stem cell transplant patients in line with professional and regulatory standards
  • Support the effective day to day running of the ward and deputise for the Ward Manager when required
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior nursing staff
  • Administer and oversee chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and specialist haematology treatments safely and effectively
  • Monitor patient care, documentation, and clinical standards to ensure safe and effective practice
  • Participate in audits, research activities, SOP reviews, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to staff recruitment, induction, training, and competency assessments
  • Work collaboratively with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient outcomes
  • Maintain compliance with JACIE, FACT, Human Tissue Authority, and other relevant standards and frameworks

About You

  • Current NMC registration
  • Post registration experience within Haematology and/or Oncology nursing
  • Experience caring for stem cell transplant patients
  • Competency in blood transfusion and ideally stem cell return
  • Experience administering intravenous cytotoxic drugs
  • Strong clinical knowledge and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • A proactive and patient focused approach to care delivery
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
