Salary: £28,392 - £31,157 per annum

Job Summary
To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to Consultant(s) and Departmental Team, within the general procedures laid down for the department. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded. The medical secretary is part of a team and must regard the interests of the patient as paramount and as such must be aware of the Data Protection Act (1998) and be aware of the consequences of the failure to comply with it.
Main Duties
- To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team servicing the Warrington, Halton, St Helens and Knowsley NHS Breast Screening Programme, with the aim of providing and maintaining a high standard of service to patients.
- To be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Patient Clinical Database on the NHSBSP Computer Programme.
- To provide a secretarial service to the Programme Director, Consultant Radiologists, Radiographic team, and Programme Manager regarding queries and reports from the NHSBSP.
- To advise and support the Consultant Surgeons, junior medical staff, and Breast Care Nurses servicing the symptomatic breast service.
- To cover secretarial duties across both sites depending on staffing.
- Post-holders are expected to be flexible in their approach to the needs of the service.
- To work with the minimum of supervision in an organised, efficient and effective manner in order to maximise the use of own time and that of other departmental staff.
- To be part of a small, busy administrative support team providing essential cover where applicable.

The site also houses the Delamere Macmillan Unit, Halton Clinical Research Unit, and Runcorn Urgent Treatment Centre. Both hospitals offer outpatient clinics and diagnostic services.

Experience
- Previous secretary experience with minimum of 3 years' experience (Essential)
- Data Input experience (Essential)
- Working as a team member (Essential)
- Previous medical/NHS secretarial experience (Desirable)
- Knowledge of screening programmes (Desirable)
- Experience of writing Standard Operating Procedures (Desirable)
Qualification
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English (Essential)
- RSA Typing III or equivalent experience (Essential)
- Medical Terminology or equivalent experience (Essential)
- Good knowledge of windows applications (Essential)
- ECDL or Equivalent (Essential)
- Knowledge of NBSS computer system (Desirable)
