Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (Medicine)

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join the adult Medicine Pharmacy Team at Oxford Road Campus, Manchester. This is a permanent, full-time role at Band 7 with a salary of £49,387 to £56,515 per annum (pro rata). The closing date for applications is 19 May 2026.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our adult Medicine Pharmacy Team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Oxford Road Campus providing care to our patients at our City Centre Hospital. You will be able to immerse yourself in our digital capabilities to improve the pharmaceutical care delivered to our patients.

Main Duties of the Job

As the successful candidate you will be part of the friendly and supportive Medicine Pharmacy team, providing a clinical pharmacy service with directorate responsibilities to a variety of medical specialties. You will be at the forefront of the development of our clinical service. During your training you will rotate through our many medical specialist/tertiary level services. Excellent communication skills are key, as you will be working with our diverse population, and with many different clinical teams. This post is based at Oxford Road Campus. Areas covered by medicine pharmacists at Oxford Road include:

  • General medicine
  • Respiratory including MDRTB
  • Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Elderly Care
  • Frailty including acute frailty unit
  • Stroke and rehab
  • Cardiology
  • Hyperacute sickle unit
  • As well as support to the Medical admissions team

We look forward to appointing pharmacists who are GPhC registered, have previous hospital experience, have a clinical diploma or have completed the first year, and have the necessary skills to work in our clinical service in one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential: Vocational 4 year Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy; Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Desirable: Non Medical Prescribing Qualification; Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Knowledge

Essential: Excellent all round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills; Knowledge of national guidance (NICE, NSFs) and evidence based medicine; Evidence of continuing professional development.

Training and Experience

Essential: Post registration hospital experience or equivalent documented clinical experience; Completion of first year of post-graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy; Specialist hospital pharmacy experience or relevant area expertise; Experience in training and supervising others.

Skills and Abilities

Essential: Analytical/problem solving skills particularly with respect to the use of medicines; Able to lead and act on own initiative (assertive); Able to organise, prioritise and meet deadlines; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Organised and methodical approach to work; An advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement; Computer literate; Excellent influencing and negotiating skills.
