Deputy Sister / Ward Leader

Ready to take on a new challenge? We have a fantastic opportunity for a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse to join our well established team. Job Summary

St Mawes is a 32-bedded surgical ward that cares for patients undergoing emergency or elective surgery both pre and post-operatively. As Deputy Sister / Ward Leader, you will lead the team, provide clinical support, guidance and supervision on a daily basis.

Main Duties

  • Work as a skilled member of the nursing team to provide high standard holistic patient centred care.
  • Promote patient centred care and establish good relationships with patients and carers.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with recovery and surgical wards to promote excellent patient care.
  • Be a highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner setting the highest standards.
  • Take charge of the ward and create flow to ensure timely admissions and discharges.
  • Act as role model and expert practitioner.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Level 1 Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
  • Essential: Qualified or commitment to being an Assessor / Mentor
  • Desirable: Degree or in process of obtaining

Experience

  • Essential: Substantial experience in an acute surgical setting
  • Desirable: Previous ward leadership experience
  • Desirable: Experience leading a team in absence of senior staff

Practical Skills

  • Essential: Ability to plan, prioritize and evaluate nursing care in accordance with NMC Principles
  • Essential: Good record keeping skills
