Pharmacy Technician

Job summary
The Pharmacy Technician will work as part of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] multidisciplinary team to support safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines across all three practice sites. The role delivers both clinical and technical medicines optimisation functions, supporting GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, and the wider team to improve patient outcomes, reduce medicines related risk, and strengthen prescribing systems.
The postholder must meet all national requirements for ARRS Pharmacy Technicians, including registration, training pathway compliance, and delivery of the mandated clinical, technical, and administrative responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
- Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to promote effective medicines use, including shared decision making conversations.
- Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including: checking inhaler technique, supporting medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, supporting patients to use medicines safely and effectively.
- Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home residents, and assist with synchronising medicines for patients transferring between care settings.
- Provide specialist expertise, where competent, to address public health and social care needs, including lifestyle advice, service information, and reducing health inequalities.
- Contribute to shared care protocols, liaising with specialist pharmacists for complex patients.
- Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
- Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes, patient safety audits, and quality improvement projects.
- Support implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance across all [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] sites, including clinical audits (e.g., antibiotic use), Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services.
- Undertake Dispensing Reviews of the Use of Medicines (DRUMs) for eligible dispensing patients, ensuring safe, effective, and personalised use of medicines.
