Job Summary

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology team at the Sussex Eye Hospital under the supervision of Mr Mayank A. Nanavaty, Consultant (Cornea & Anterior segment). Main Duties of the Job

  • Assisting in all aspects of theatre, inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Pre- and post-operative patient care.
  • Research and clinical improvement projects.
  • Teaching of medical students during their ophthalmology rotation.
  • 1:8 Registrar on-call duties (non-resident).

Job Responsibilities

The successful applicant will gain experience in lamellar corneal transplantation (DMEK, DSAEK and DALK), penetrating keratoplasty, routine and complex cataract surgery, ocular surface surgeries including pterygium surgery, stem cell transplants, and medical and surgical management of external eye diseases. The Fellow will engage in research and development, and help with administration and teaching.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Basic medical degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
  • Minimum of four years' experience in Ophthalmology
  • Experience in Cataract Surgery, Cornea and Anterior Segment disorders
  • Evidence of participation in audit
  • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching

Desirable

  • Appropriate Royal College Membership
  • Higher Degree
  • Prizes and honours, Publications, Research experience
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
