Domestic Assistant - Chorley Hospital

Job Summary

We couldn't run our hospitals without you and the fantastic work you will do keeping our wards, departments and areas clean, tidy, reducing the risk of infections and effectively helping keep our staff well and our patients safe.

Main Duties

• General cleaning of wards, departments, public and staff areas.
• Communicate with supervisor and colleagues by phone and radio.
• Communicate with clinical and non-clinical staff, patients and visitors.
• Carry out cleaning duties in designated area.
• Take responsibility for equipment held within area of work.
• Assist with cleaning duties in any area as required.
• Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities.
• Assist with maintenance work on floor coverings.
• Identify and report equipment defects and stock shortages.
• Clean kitchen areas following food safety standards.
• Identify and report potential risks (e.g., pest sightings, building faults).
• Support new domestic services assistants via the Buddy System.
• Removal and disposal of rubbish.

Person Specification

Essential

• Good general education to GCSE standard
• Cleaning experience
• Experience working with the public

Desirable

• NVQ or other recognised cleaning qualification
• COSHH Certificate
• Health & Safety qualification
• Experience using electrical cleaning equipment
• Previous NHS experience in a similar role
• Knowledge of National Standards of Cleaning and NHS colour coding
