Job summary
The purpose of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s Be U North Yorkshire Service is to provide assessments for children and young people on the autism diagnostic pathway via the NHS.
Main duties of the job
Key duties and responsibilities include managing a caseload to deliver a high-quality autism diagnostic service for children and young people across Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale, supporting the diagnostic process, screening referrals, and producing clear diagnostic reports for families and professionals. The role involves delivering assessments in appropriate settings, maintaining accurate records in line with CQC and organisational standards, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide guidance and support to families, carers and professionals. The postholder will facilitate supervision for Assistant Psychologists and allied health professionals, contribute to integrated care pathways, service development, recruitment, training and induction of staff, and support clinical and operational improvements. Additional responsibilities include providing autism awareness training, attending mandatory training and supervision, maintaining up-to-date evidence-based knowledge, participating in audits, quality assurance and research activity, and contributing to continuous improvement and high standards of care across the service.

Job responsibilities
- Manage own caseload delivering a high quality, effective and efficient autism diagnostic service to children and young people.
- Assist other team members with the diagnostic process for those suspected of being autistic.
- Lead with the appropriate screening of referrals and provide information for referrers, clients and carers.
- Formulate reports explaining the diagnosis for a range of audiences.
- Ensure assessment is provided in appropriate settings.
- Work in a professional and collaborative manner with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide information, education and support for family members, carers and professionals.
- Participate in case load supervision and facilitate clinical supervision of Assistant Psychologists.
- Contribute to development of integrated care pathways, audits, and service improvement.
- Provide autism awareness training.
Person Specification
Essential Experience: Extensive autism assessments within MDT, use of gold-standard tools (ADOS-2, ADI-R), risk assessment and safeguarding, supervision experience.
Essential Qualifications: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (BPS accredited), HCPC registration, post-qualification training in autism assessment tools, significant post-qualification CYP experience.
Desirable: Leadership/management qualification, additional training in neurodevelopmental conditions, NHS CAMHS or community paediatrics experience.
