Job summary
Rotational SHO in Acute & Specialist Medicine (Ealing) - 12 months post - Aug 26 - Aug 27. Each rotation is 6 months in duration through Acute Medicine / Respiratory or through Cardiology / DMOP (Dept of Medicine for Older People), & Gastro, and the posts are 12 months fixed term. MBBS (or equivalent), MRCP UK (or equivalent), Full registration with GMC and previous UK experience are essential.
Main duties of the job
IMT (Internal Medicine Training is the UKs new training scheme for medicine that has replaced CMT (Core Medical Training) and the first year of Specialty Registrar training. It's aim to is better prepare trainees for the rigors of being a medical registrar and consultant in a changing NHS https://www.jrcptb.org.uk/imt. All trainees will undergo a mid-year GMC approved SARD appraisal and end of year ARCP with the training programme directors.

We hope these posts will be attractive to both those post CMT, pre IMT, ACCS or Core Anaesthetic training. All trainees will be expected to progress through MRCP (or FRCA) examinations as required and/or apply for core medical, anaesthetic or specialty training during these posts. In addition, for those not applying for deanery posts and who have enjoyed working at the trust, there will be the option of renewing the contract for another year. Such an arrangement would be made before the next recruitment cycle.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the regular clinical assessment and management of all patients, in conjunction with consultants and anaesthetic trainees. Close supervision will be available at all times but incumbents of the posts will be trained and encouraged to develop initiative in clinical assessment, diagnosis and active management of their patients, rather than being limited to carrying out a daily list of tasks. This clinical commitment extends beyond the unit to support that Critical Care Outreach nurses and the care of critically ill patients throughout the hospital.
The post holder will have a prime responsibility for the regular and accurate documentation of history, examination, clinical progress, and results of investigations. This will include computerised record keeping in the near future, and an ability to cope with basic computer text entry will be expected. This role will also include the day-to-day audit of practice and standards of care.
The post holder will work closely with nursing staff, physiotherapists and other associated health professionals, and act as a primary point of contact and referral with other medical teams and diagnostic services. Intensive care is a potentially stressful environment and much of the activity occurs out of hours. Appointees will be expected to communicate effectively and professionally at all times, both with members of the public and with fellow staff of all ranks and disciplines.
