Prison Services Pharmacy Technician

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join the Prison Services team at HMP Portland. This permanent, full-time role offers a salary of £32,073 to £39,043 per annum (Band 5) and involves providing medicines management and administration within a prison setting.

Main Duties

  • Provide a medicines optimisation service to the prison.
  • Administer medicines to patients against a valid prescription as part of a 7 day per week rota.
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation for prisoners admitted to the prison.
  • Supervise assistants when in the dispensary providing dispensing services.
  • Be an accredited checking technician providing final dispensing checks.
  • Ensure high standards of work and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist the Senior Prisons Technician with writing, updating and monitoring SOPs.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent (Essential)
  • Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician (Essential)
  • Evidence of CPD (Essential)
  • Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate (Desirable)

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a pharmacy (Essential)
  • Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience (Desirable)

Skills and Abilities

  • Good knowledge of working within a set of SOPs (Essential)
  • Ability to use (or learn to use) computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/ JAC and Microsoft (Essential)
  • Ability to use initiative to problem solve (Desirable)
  • Some understanding of mental illness and substance misuse and their treatment (Desirable)
