Job Summary

Become a key contributor in our Operational Engineering team, supporting product lifecycle management and driving engineering excellence. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Operational Engineering (OE) team, you will play a pivotal technical role in maintaining, improving, and enhancing the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] product range across its full lifecycle. Reporting into the Head of Operational Engineering, you will lead and contribute to technical projects that safeguard product performance, compliance, and manufacturability while driving continuous improvement across our global portfolio.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Project Delivery: Lead and support technical projects that maintain, improve, and enhance existing [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] products.
  • Engineering Change (ECR/ECO): Own and deliver engineering changes and ensure adherence to ISO 9001.
  • Documentation, Scheduling & Reporting: Prepare high-quality technical documentation.
  • Concept & Design Development: Generate engineering concepts and evaluate options.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Specify prototypes and define verification/validation testing.
  • Test Analysis & Reporting: Interpret test results and communicate findings.
  • Manufacturing Engagement: Ensure design intent is achieved in production.
  • Risk Management: Lead FMEA and PFMEA activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to reduce waste and improve quality.
  • Quality & Compliance Support: Provide senior support for PPAP and regulatory compliance.
  • Health & Safety: Follow Watson‑Marlow health and safety systems.
  • Technical Leadership: Share knowledge and guide less experienced engineers.

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and practical application of engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering documentation standards.
  • Experience with PPAP, FMEA, RCA, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of plastic injection moulding, aluminium casting, machining, metrology, mouldflow.
  • Knowledge of mechanical test methods, compliance, and validation.
  • Interpreting engineering datasheets and writing reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Project management awareness.
  • Awareness of CMM & vision systems or similar metrology tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards e.g. Machinery Directive, RoHS, REACH.
