About the Organisation

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a school that people choose. We are oversubscribed in every year group, a testament to the reputation we have built with families across South Liverpool. Staff turnover is exceptionally low, because people come here and want to stay. That tells you something important about what it is like to work here.

We are a large, richly diverse 11–18 comprehensive, adjacent to Calderstones Park, and we are proud of it. Our community, our diversity, our ethos and our values are not just words, they shape everything we do. We believe that every student, regardless of background, prior attainment, gender or faith, deserves a first-class education. Nobody rises to low expectations, and we hold that standard for our students and our staff alike.

In 2023, Ofsted rated [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] ‘Good’ in all areas.

What We Offer You:

  • Staff wellbeing is underpinned by a robust framework that includes protected working hours, clear expectations around after-hours contact, and PPA time that regularly exceeds the statutory minimum.
  • Opportunities to grow, whether that’s taking on additional responsibilities, progressing through pay scales, or developing leadership skills, we invest in our people for the long term.
  • Outstanding facilities including a swimming pool, fully equipped gym, and ample secure staff parking on a well-maintained, attractive campus.
  • A genuine community, diverse, warm, ambitious, and proud.

Our Commitment to You:

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is proud to be an Equal Opportunities Employer and a Disability Committed Employer. About the Role

Modern languages are thriving at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] — and we want to keep it that way. With the majority of our Year 10 and 11 students choosing a language at GCSE, and Spanish offered and taken up at A Level, our MFL department is one of the most popular in the school. Year groups of 265+ students mean real breadth and ambition in what we deliver.

French is taught at KS3 and KS4; Spanish is taught throughout the school from KS3 to KS5. You’ll be joining a well-supported team of ten, including a Head of Department, KS3 and KS4 Coordinators, and a Deputy Headteacher with direct responsibility for quality of education.

Teaching of French at KS3, and Spanish at KS3 and KS4, is essential; teaching Spanish to KS5 is desirable. Applications from ECTs are warmly welcomed.

Our Department:

The MFL department is housed on the top corridor of our Arts Wing, with six purpose-built, modern, spacious teaching rooms, each with a large stockroom and interactive whiteboard. We have access to ICT suites across the site and a wide range of excellent resources. It’s a well-resourced, well-led department with a strong team culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons across KS3, KS4 and (desirably) KS5, using a variety of engaging and effective teaching methods.
  • Assess, record and report on student progress, attendance and attainment, using data to inform and improve teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work, resources and departmental improvement plans.
  • Act as a Form Tutor (Wellbeing Tutor) to an assigned group of students, supporting their pastoral development and wellbeing.
  • Take a proactive role in extra-curricular and enrichment activities that promote engagement and academic progress.
  • Participate actively in the school’s CPD programme, performance management processes, and ongoing professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school, including Open Evenings, Parents’ Evenings, and marketing and liaison events.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos, values, behaviour management systems, and safeguarding responsibilities at all times.

Flexible Working:

This post is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is committed to family-friendly working practices and we are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements within the requirements of the role. Please indicate your preference on your application form.
