About the Role

An exciting opportunity to join our Customs & Excise team reporting to the Head of Duty for the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group. The role will support the Head of Duty to ensure the business adheres to the legislative and compliance requirements of all Customs & Excise declarations and transactional data are submitted ensuring that “Right amount is paid at the Right Time”.

You will be a subject matter expert and ensure full compliance with UK/EU customs and excise regulations for moving and producing goods into GB, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands and ROW ensuring customs duties, documentation, customs declarations are submitted correctly and all liabilities are discharged.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ownership and review of the customs & excise manuals, SOPs, due diligence packs, and letters of authority.
  • Consolidate and report on customs & excise compliance KPIs and ensure targets are met.
  • Monitor and ensure changes in customs / excise legislation, are reviewed and an assessment of the impact to the business.
  • Monitor and review Deferment account reconciliation processes for Imports and Excise returns.
  • Review the submission of CBAM reports for UK and Ireland
  • Own the overview of due diligence packs and letters of authority.
  • Liaise with HMRC, Irish Revenue and other tax authorities (as appropriate), freight forwarders, and stakeholders.
  • Support business development projects and drive process improvement
  • Attend Trade body meetings.
  • Development of the team and individual supporting continuous learning, delivering their strategic goals and objectives with annual performance reviews.

Skills / Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with Custom and Excise legislation in Production, Import and Exporting in FMCG, preferably in the Drinks industry.
  • Demonstrate leadership and have experience in managing people
  • Descartes/Thyme-IT, JDE, and TSS experience desirable.
  • Proactive in finding alternative solutions to overcome constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to identify and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent Microsoft 365 skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel, alongside strong numerical and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail. Comfortable exporting and organising data sets in Excel for analysis.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
