Job Description

The Role: Head of Software Engineer

Location: Sheffield, UK

Position Type: Contract Inside IR35

Remote work option Available: Remote with Occasional Travel

  • Lead the identification of SL bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and friction points across teams, and drive practical improvement initiatives to address them.
  • Partner with Engineering, Platform, and Risk and Control stakeholders to improve delivery flow, change quality, stability, resiliency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Define and drive the adoption of DORA, SPACE, and broader engineering metrics to create visibility, support prioritization, and improve performance outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain automated reporting to provide clear views of current performance, root-cause analysis, trends, and recommended actions.
  • Lead engineering and operational automation initiatives across areas such as testing, deployment, patching, recovery, and health checks.
  • Create and maintain a central engineering knowledge space and operating cadence to support governance, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Influence stakeholders across a matrix environment to align on priorities, remove blockers, and sustain delivery momentum.
