Construction Manager

Role Overview

The Construction Manager plays an important role in delivery of the work programme to the client to time, cost, and quality. The role holder is responsible for the day to day running of site / project, working with the Contract Manager to ensure that all client timescales are met without exposing [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to risk.

Responsible for overseeing the operations being undertaken by [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] directly or by subcontractors acting under the direct control of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. If [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] are acting as Principal Contractor on a scheme the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Construction Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the safe management of interfaces between any 3rd party contractors operating on the site in line with the scheme construction phase plan and their duties under the CDM regulations 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Site Managers, Supervisors, Operatives and Sub-contractors
  • Ensuring that appropriate method statements, risk assessments, permits etc are in place and briefed to all affected parties (including sub-contractors) before work starts, and that the safe systems of work therein are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure safe digging practices are being followed including the issuing of permits to dig
  • Deliver start of shift briefings including any Toolbox Talks/ Safety Briefings as required, ensuring all staff on site have received and understood the information delivered and have completed/ signed the register
  • Coach and look after new starters, so that they become competent to work alongside a motorway or high-speed road

Vehicle & Plant

  • Ensuring that all plant, machinery, and equipment (including hired) is fit for purpose and that the required daily inspections are carried out.
  • Complete Daily Diaries detailing plant and labour used, site conditions, progress of works delivered, and any incidents/ issues escalated
  • Ensure resource levels (materials) on site are maintained to correct levels and inform PM / CM in a timely manner where additional resources are required.
  • Order plant and materials using company Fastfield system to ensure works are delivered to programme.
  • Return Plant Returns sheet each week confirming if plant has been used, not used or off-hired
  • Ensure all vehicle and plant checks are completed daily and before the vehicle / item of plant is used during that shift
  • Ensure that all plant & machinery provided for the works are suitable, in good working order and kept clean. In addition, ensure vehicles are kept clean and tidy on the inside

Project / Scheme Management

  • Plan be responsible for, and co-ordinate site works in accordance with the instructions of the Client, Project Manager and Contracts Manager.
  • Plan and manage resource allocations
