Reports to: Senior Manager, Validation/Verification Quality Control

The Opportunity

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Senior Program Officer to support the oversight of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) and to strengthen their capacity to conduct audits effectively and consistently under [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] programs. This role is within the Auditing and Accreditation team in [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Program Management Department and focuses on supporting VVB application reviews, performance observation audits, and ongoing monitoring activities.

A day with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Program Management Team might include…

  • Monitoring notifications of upcoming VVB validation and verification audits to identify opportunities for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to perform a performance observation audit.
  • Planning, coordinating, and/or conducting performance observation audits, including liaising with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] staff, VVBs, and project proponents, and managing communications and travel logistics.
  • Documenting performance observation audit findings and supporting follow-up activities.
  • Responding to internal and external inquiries, ensuring clear, timely, and consistent communication aligned with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] program requirements.
  • Reviewing documentation submitted by applicant VVBs to assess completeness and alignment with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s auditing and accreditation requirements.
  • Reviewing and maintaining up-to-date information on VVBs across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] systems.
  • Maintaining and analyzing VVB performance data (project reviews, quality control reviews, nonconformity reports) and other tracking tools.
  • Working closely with colleagues across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Program Management and other internal teams to ensure coordinated oversight.

The Role

  • Support the selection, planning, and implementation of performance observation audits of VVB validation and/or verification activities.
  • Monitor notifications of upcoming VVB audits to identify suitable performance observation audit opportunities.
  • Coordinate with appropriate [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] staff to assign and conduct performance observation audits.
  • Manage and plan logistics with VVBs, project proponents, and internal teams.
  • Conduct performance observation audits to verify competence and effectiveness of approved VVBs.
  • Document and manage performance observation audit findings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries received through [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Auditing and Accreditation inbox.
  • Support the technical review and management of VVB applications.
  • Support development and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate VVB information across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] systems.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze VVB performance data.
  • Provide support to other workstreams in the A&A Team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Program Management and other internal teams.

What we’d like to see

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience, with at least 3 years working with VVBs or accreditation bodies.
  • A relevant university degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in climate change mitigation, carbon crediting programs/standards, sustainability science, and/or the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Strong understanding of auditing standards and techniques.
  • Knowledge of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s standards, ISO 17029, ISO 14065, ISO 14064, ISO 14066, and social auditing accreditation standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work with international stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English; additional UN languages preferred.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 50% of the time.
