FULL DESCRIPTION
Colour Technician
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Colour Technician to support the laboratory department in controlling, approving, and correcting colour on textile substrates. The role involves hands-on colour assessment, shade correction, pass/fail decision-making, and acting as a link between production and lab.
Main Responsibilities & Duties
- Colour Assessment on Textiles - Assess coated and uncoated textile samples visually and instrumentally against approved standards.
- Pass/Fail Decision Making - Decide whether a colour sample is acceptable for production or requires correction.
- Shade Correction - Carry out colour corrections and prepare adjusted formulations or recommendations for rework.
- Production and Laboratory Link - Act as day-to-day connection between production and laboratory functions.
- Failure Escalation and Reporting - Report colour failures and unusual findings to management.
- Works Order Preparation - Prepare and check works orders and related documentation.
- Sample Preparation and Handling - Prepare, label, handle, and retain textile samples.
- Instrumental and Visual Evaluation - Use colour measurement equipment and light cabinets.
- Documentation and Record Keeping - Maintain accurate records of colour assessments.
- Technical Support to Production - Support production teams with colour-related queries.
- Raw Material Delivery & Pre-Delivery Checks – Carry out checks on raw materials.
- Housekeeping and Stock Awareness - Maintain organised work area.
- Assist with company’s transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
Essential Criteria
- Colour Knowledge - Good understanding of colour matching and shade assessment.
- Hands-on Testing Experience - Practical experience with colour samples.
- Decision Making - Ability to make clear pass/fail decisions.
- Communication Skills - Able to communicate findings clearly.
- Attention to Detail - High level of accuracy.
- Technical Awareness - Familiarity with spectrophotometers and light booths.
- Organisation - Able to manage multiple samples and deadlines.
- IT Skills - Competent in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Teamwork - Comfortable working closely with colleagues.
- Compliance - Able to follow procedures and safety standards.
- Industry Background - Experience in textiles, coatings, or similar.
- Relevant Qualification - Qualification in textile technology, colour chemistry, or related.
Desirable Criteria
- Systems Knowledge - X-Rite spectrophotometer systems and Colour iControl.
- Process Understanding - Awareness of textile coating or pigment application.

Working Hours
40 hours per week – 7.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. 1 hour unpaid lunch break.
