Perinatal Peer Supporter
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Perinatal Peer Supporter for the Bradford Perinatal Support Service. This is a temporary, part-time role (16-29.6 hours per week) for 6 months, based in Bradford, UK. Salary: £22,546 - £23,966 FTE (pro-rata).
About the Job
Service – Bradford Perinatal Support Service. Salary – Grade 2 (Lower) Point 13-15 FTE (£22,546 - £23,966). Location – Based in Bradford – working across Bradford District including Keighley and Shipley. Hours – Between 16 and 29.6 hours per week (Part-time). Contract: Temporary contract for 6 months. Could be extended subject to funding.

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Perinatal Support Service offers one to one peer support for women, who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues pre and post birth.
Your Impact
As a Peer Supporter, you will work with new and expectant mums to improve maternal mental health and emotional wellbeing, whilst helping parents to be more emotionally available for their babies. You will assess their needs, support them through their recovery journey by providing listening support sessions, and working jointly on recovery plans. You will build trusting relationships that allow service users to feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings, and ensure access to other forms of support through effective signposting.
Your Skills and Experience
- Your own experience of pregnancy, birth and caring for a new born, or supported someone close to you through this critical perinatal period.
- Understanding of the emotional impact of pregnancy and birth and the demands of parenthood.
- Ability to empathise with the needs of families during the vital first 1001 days of their baby’s life.
- Ability to deliver messages about perinatal mental health, and the importance of attachment and bonding.
- Positive and self-motivated individuals keen to learn and develop.
- Excellent listening skills, empathy, and ability to build rapport.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to travel frequently across the Bradford district to deliver face to face support often in people’s homes.
- Ability to develop relationships and build links with other professionals and local support services.
- Provide guidance on how parents can effectively relate to their baby.
