Senior Young Carers Practitioner

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Senior Young Carers Practitioner to lead the service offer to young carers and their families in County Durham. This is a hybrid role based at Butterwick Hospice, Bishop Auckland, with flexible working from home and office.

  • Location: Durham, UK
  • Hours: 22.2 – 29.6 per week (part-time)
  • Salary: £28,315 - £31,073 FTE per annum (pro rata)
  • Contract: Permanent

About the Job

Service: The Bridge Young Carers Service. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] has delivered the Young Carers service since 2011 and is an established provider. The service supports Young Carers, Young Adult Carers, and their families through a whole family approach, including needs assessments, one-to-one sessions, home visits, school/college/university visits, telephone support, and peer support groups.

Main Responsibilities

  • Completing Young Carers Needs Assessments or Young Adult Carers Assessments to inform tailored support packages.
  • Line managing 2-3 Young Carers Practitioners and deputising for the Service Manager.
  • Managing the waiting list to ensure families remain safe while waiting for support.

Main Requirements

  • Enthusiasm, creative approach, and ability to engage positively with diverse individuals.
  • Knowledge of young carers and their needs.
  • Experience managing, supervising, or mentoring staff/volunteers.
  • Sound knowledge of child/young adult development, safeguarding, and assessment processes.
  • Qualified to level 4 or above in social work, health, education, or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in lead professional roles desirable.
  • Satisfactory DBS disclosure required.
