We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to play a critical role in maintaining and evolving the infrastructure that supports one of Europe’s leading online off-price retailers. This is a high-level technical authority role, focused on building a secure, scalable, and resilient environment that enables innovation across the business. 80% of your time will be dedicated to strategic project delivery and infrastructure evolution, prioritizing long-term growth over day-to-day operational tasks.

The Role Scope

As Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will operate as a senior technical authority within Tech Operations. Your focus will be on ensuring our infrastructure remains secure, scalable and high-performing, while driving forward modernisation initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with the Infrastructure Team Lead and wider technology stakeholders, acting as a senior escalation point and contributing to best-in-class infrastructure standards across our enterprise environment.

Role key responsibilities:

• Infrastructure Strategy & Standards: Contribute to the definition of infrastructure principles and technical standards. Ensure solutions align with architectural direction and long-term scalability. Evaluate emerging technologies to support future capability.
• Project Delivery & Modernisation: Lead enterprise-scale infrastructure projects (500+ users). Key Focus: Drive Lifecycle Management automation, particularly within the Okta and Microsoft stack. Design and implement secure, resilient solutions across the environment.
• Operational Excellence: Act as a senior escalation point for complex 3rd line issues. Support and deep-dive into network, server, identity and virtualisation environments. Participate in a 1-in-5 week on-call rota for emergency hardware support.
• Technical Leadership: Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers. Promote a 'team-first' culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Create alignment across technical stakeholders.

About You

• Enterprise Depth: Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure environments (500+ users).
• Network Expertise: Firewall expertise and core routing/switching (Junos CLI, Juniper, OSPF, BGP, VLANs).
• Identity Automation: Deep knowledge of Identity & Access Management, specifically Okta Lifecycle Management automation.
• The Microsoft Stack: Strong experience with Windows Server (legacy and modern), AD, and Entra.
• Virtualisation & Cloud: VMware and GCP experience.
• Scripting: Proficiency in PowerShell and experience using APIs for automation.
• Troubleshooting: A logical, granular approach to identifying and resolving complex multi-site connectivity issues.
• Logistics: Full UK Driving license and the ability to be within a 1-hour commute of Hereford for on-call duties.

Desirable: Terraform, Linux administration, Hyperconverged Infrastructure, Cisco Meraki, Google Workspace.
