Job Description

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Bushey, Hertfordshire. We are seeking a Head of Year to assume overall pastoral responsibility for a full year group of students, support their academic progress and wellbeing, and lead a team of form tutors and helpers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume overall pastoral responsibility for a year group and have accountability across the curriculum.
  • Support student wellness, including online safety, anxiety, and mental health.
  • Chair Tutor Team meetings and attend weekly Heads of Year meetings.
  • Monitor rewards, sanctions, and attendance across the year group.
  • Organise and lead Year Assemblies, parent evenings, and trips.
  • Write end of term reports and ensure tutors complete comments.
  • Liaise with parents and maintain accurate records.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher (PGCE or equivalent) with proven experience in pastoral care, leadership, and team management. Essential attributes include:

  • University graduate and qualified teacher
  • Experienced teacher with excellent academic track record
  • Proven ability to set high standards and inspire young people
  • Pastoral experience as a Form Tutor, mentor or coach
  • Knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence with IT and database technology
