Schools Officer, Artwork Loans

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is an art education charity seeking a Schools Officer to coordinate a pilot artwork loan programme bringing real artworks into schools across the UK. This is a remote, full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract at £28,000 per annum.

About the Artwork Loans Programme

This pilot programme gives children direct access to artworks in schools. Schools select 1-2 artworks to display for up to five years, supported with display care and learning resources.

About You

You have experience developing projects with schools and museum collections, are an excellent communicator, organised, confident with databases and CRM systems, and passionate about art as an educational tool.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of artwork loan programme between lending institutions and schools.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for requesting, approving, and tracking loans.
  • Coordinate schedules for delivery, installation, and return of artworks.
  • Cultivate relationships with institutional partners and schools.
  • Liaise with museum registrars, conservators, and transport teams.
  • Ensure condition checks and accurate documentation.
  • Arrange transportation, insurance, and environmental requirements.
  • Serve as primary contact for teachers and school administrators.
  • Support schools in selecting artworks aligned with curriculum.
  • Provide guidance on safe display and appropriate use.
  • Share learning resources for pupil engagement.
  • Produce clear communications for schools.
  • Maintain accurate records of loans, budgets, and programme metrics.
  • Prepare reports for funders and partners.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and evaluation.

Necessary Skills and Experience

  • Essential: Experience in museum education, arts administration, or related field.
  • Essential: Excellent organisation and project-management skills.
  • Essential: Strong experience with databases and CRM systems.
  • Essential: First-class written and spoken communication.
  • Essential: Experience working with schools and supporting teachers.
  • Essential: Self-motivated, reliable, able to meet deadlines.
  • Essential: Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office).

  • Desirable: Understanding of museum standards for handling and transporting artworks.
