PLC Programming

Our Controls Manager is responsible for the overall programming of assembly lines, robotic devices, or other manufacturing processes using programmable logic controllers (PLC). This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, logical thinker who enjoys working with different machines in combination with computers.

Controls Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design Schematics – Create schematics showing how electrical components and panels work together; examine existing drawings for reliability and manufacturability; create logic flow diagrams using Visio or compatible packages.
  • Write and Document Programs – Use automation software (Schneider/Rockwell/Siemens) and programming languages (Ladder Logic, ST, SFC, Function Block) to write programs; prepare documentation and safety instructions.
  • Test Programs – Determine test criteria, test new programs for reliability and safety; also test third-party programs and equipment.
  • Install Programs – Oversee successful installation, provide guidance and support to technicians, and train them in safe and efficient operation.
  • Provide Technical Support – Ongoing support to internal users and external customers, troubleshooting, and creating solutions.

Controls Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • Engineering knowledge – Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering principles; HND/Degree in electrical engineering or relevant experience (min 5 years).
  • Experience managing a team of at least 5.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites.
