FULL DESCRIPTION
Engineering Manager at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Scoring Squad. Remote, Full-time, Technology department.
The TL;DR
We’re looking for a Hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our Scoring Squad—the technical engine that translates world-class nutrition science into the personalised biological scores our members rely on. At [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], leadership is a craft; we need a technical heavyweight who stays "under the hood," shipping code and architecting systems alongside their team while multiplying their squad's impact.
The Big Picture
- Own the technical roadmap and system design for the Scoring domain, ensuring our "science-to-app" pipeline is scalable, performant, and flawlessly accurate as we expand globally.
- Mentor and lead 2 to 3 engineers, moving them from task execution to high-autonomy delivery through consistent technical coaching and performance management.
- Partner with Product and Science to "productionise" complex research models, turning raw data into high-performance software that powers life-changing habits.
We aren't just building an app; we're building the world's largest nutrition science project. As our Engineering Manager for Scoring, you'll be the bridge between clinical research and a seamless member experience. Your work ensures that our members’ biological data is transformed into actionable truth.
The Squad
You’ll lead the Scoring Squad, a highly cross-functional group of backend and full-stack engineers, data scientists and nutrition scientists. You will report to an Engineering Director and work in a tight "trio" with a Product Manager and Product Designer, operating with radical candour and startup speed to move the needle on member health.
Our cutting-edge stack - A taste of what you'll use!
- Languages: Kotlin, Python (for ML services)
- Frontend: React Native (our mobile home)
- Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Data/Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, and Terraform
Your DNA
- The Builder Mindset: You are a Senior or Lead engineer who hasn't lost your love for the IDE. You are deeply comfortable with distributed systems and API design. If you aren't excited to dive into the codebase, debug a production issue, or perform a rigorous PR review, this isn't the role for you.
- Manager-as-Mentor: You have a proven track record of leading small teams. You know how to level up engineers by leading from the front, setting the technical bar, and navigating performance cycles with empathy and clarity.
- Scientific Rigour: You are excited by the challenge of turning research-grade logic into reliable, user-facing insights. You use data to identify bottlenecks and validate your technical decisions.
- Startup Speed: You thrive in a high-growth environment. You know how to balance "perfect" architecture with the "startup speed" required to ship and learn.
Your Mission
- Solve: Take end-to-end ownership of the Scoring domain. You’ll ensure the long-term health and reliability of the infrastructure that delivers our core product value.
- Build & Ship: Stay close to the craft. You will actively participate in implementation, lead system designs, and ensure best practices are baked into every line of code your squad ships.
- Scale: Help us move from our current scale to a global platform. You’ll architect systems that can handle a rapidly growing member base while maintaining 100% accuracy in our biological scoring.
- Collaborate: Act as the primary technical partner for our Nutrition Science and Data Science teams. You’ll bridge the gap between "science-speak" and high-performance, production-ready engineering.
