Summary: Prison Custody Officer at HMP Millsike, York. Full-time, £36,540 per annum. Responsible for maintaining safety, supporting prisoner rehabilitation, and supervising daily activities. Requires empathy, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills. Training provided.
What You'll Do
- Working directly with prisoners to make a positive impact.
- Maintain safety and security for prisoners, staff, and visitors.
- Support prisoner care and rehabilitation using a trauma-informed approach.
- Promote safer custody and reduce violence, creating a restorative environment.
- Assist prisoners in preparing for release, working closely with health services, probation, and other professionals.
- Supervise daily activities and work assignments.
- Communicate effectively, adapting your style to build trust and understanding.

Job Requirements
- You must be eligible to work in the UK.
- This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas.
- Exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; subject to HMPPS security clearance (10-year checkable history, financial and social media checks).
- Good understanding of Maths and English (assessed).
- Moderate level of physical fitness.
- Meet eyesight and hearing standards.
- Access to own transport beneficial due to rural location and fixed shift timings.
