Site Maintenance Engineer

Location: Cleckheaton, BD19 4TT | Job type: Permanent | Hours: 40 hours per week, site based | Reporting to: Head of Engineering

About the Role

The Site Maintenance Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering team, providing comprehensive maintenance support across all manufacturing and production facilities at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. This hands-on role is critical to ensuring equipment uptime, reliability, and safety while supporting a wide range of site engineering projects. A key function of this role is the involvement in planning, installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment, making this an exciting opportunity for an engineer who thrives in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • New Equipment Installation: Actively support and lead on the installation, commissioning, and integration of new production and packaging equipment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of production equipment.
  • Planned Maintenance: Deliver tasks in line with the annual Planned Maintenance (PM) schedule.
  • Refurbishment and Upgrades: Carry out refurbishments, upgrades, and modifications to existing machinery.
  • Downtime Management: Maximise downtime to overhaul and enhance equipment performance.
  • TPM Delivery: Implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) routines.
  • Project Involvement: Contribute to site-based engineering projects.
  • Contractor Supervision: Oversee external contractors on-site.
  • Asset Management: Identify underperforming equipment and recommend solutions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Work in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance tasks.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams.
  • Business support: Provide out-of-hours support as required.

  • Any other duties as required by the Head of Engineering.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualifications: City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Engineering discipline; time-served apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical engineering knowledge with practical understanding of control systems; skilled in fault diagnosis across electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems; experience in installing and commissioning production equipment.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in manufacturing or FMCG maintenance environment (cosmetics, food, or pharmaceutical sectors preferred); proven involvement in equipment upgrades and capital projects; experience with Mixing Vessels, Boilers, Compressors, Chillers; experience with Container Filling, Labelling, Tube Filling & Packaging Machinery advantageous.
  • Key Behavioural Competencies: Practical, hands-on, strong ownership; excellent communication; proactive, flexible; confident decision-maker under pressure; strong awareness of manufacturing priorities.
