HR & People Specialist
Birmingham or West Midlands Based / UK Hybrid (1-2 days per week on site) / Full-Time, 12 Month FTC Please note that applicants must have a love and passion for games!
As HR & People Specialist at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], you'll play a central role in supporting every stage of the employee journey, from onboarding to offboarding and everything in between. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on process, communication, and creating a great team experience and culture.
Responsibilities
- People Support: Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers for all HR guidance, policy clarification, and day-to-day people operations/HR support. Including but not limited to queries regarding pay, pension, GDPR, absence policies, abroad working and team perks.
- Team Performance and Conduct Management: Partner with managers on performance, conduct, absence, and employee relations issues, escalating complex matters as appropriate. Assist leads and managers with effective objective setting, goal setting for performance reviews, probationary reviews, and discussing sensitive matters such as absence, AWOL, and disciplinary procedures. Liaise between line managers and team members for leadership changes. Work with the culture team on retention strategies and company benefits. Advise on effective 1-1s. Organise in-office events. Implement projects to improve employee engagement. Work with Studio Head and CEO on career paths.
- Business Support: Ensure adherence to labour laws (employment contracts, wage and hour laws, workplace safety). Liaise with accountants for payroll submissions. Support contractors with invoicing. Implement new HR processes and systems. Investigate and implement Health & Safety and GDPR training. Implement H&S practices in office and WFH.
- Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding: Conduct interviews for all roles alongside the recruiter, act as consistent interviewer. Conduct onboardings including administrative tasks, right to work checks, contract creation. Conduct offboarding including exit interviews. Attend industry events to represent [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
- Administrative: Track Visas with expirations and obtain new Visas where necessary. Manage clock-in/out system. Implement timesheet processes. Manage HRIS system as superuser. Ensure compliance with UK and EU data regulations. Keep HR management database up to date and GDPR compliant. Create, monitor, and update company policies.
Requirements
- Based in the Midlands area and able to commit to hybrid working.
- A passion for video games and the gaming industry.
- Previous experience in an HR role.
- Previous administration experience.
- Ability to self-manage and prioritise workload.
- Passion for ensuring accurate administration and reporting.
- Friendly and positive personality.
- Very strong work ethic and self-motivation.
- Excellent people-skills — communication, influence, networking, teamwork.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure, manage multiple projects.
- Positive, can-do, hands-on attitude.
- High degree of organisation and efficiency.
- Experience in creating and managing systems in a growing company.
- Confidence liaising with C-suite and director-level team members.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- CIPD qualified.
- Health & Safety Trained (IOSH).
- First Aid trained.
- Basic lifesaving trained.
- Mental Health First Aid trained.
- Fire Marshal trained.
