Job Description

We are a family-owned Retail and Distribution business with our Head Office based in Dundee. Trading Manager

The Trading Manager is responsible for overseeing trading performance across one or more product categories, driving profitable sales growth through effective pricing, promotions, inventory control, and strong supplier partnerships. This role plays a key part in ensuring a competitive, high-quality product offering aligned with customer expectations and company strategy. Managing administrative support staff as required.

About the Role

  • Deliver sales, margin, and profit targets.
  • Analyse sales and performance data to identify trends and work with demand planning to ensure timely stock arrival. Support trading decisions using Power BI and Sales Track.
  • Implement promotional and pricing strategies, ensuring alignment with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] pricing policy
  • Manage stock levels to maximise availability and minimise waste. Attend slow-moving stock meetings and manage actions to reduce overstocks and improve stock efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to identify opportunities for growth, cost savings, and improved commercial terms.
  • Negotiate local trading terms and support ongoing national trading agreements through [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Central Office.
  • Work closely with the Media Hub Manager to maximise JBP spend and activity.
  • Partner with Central Operations to ensure timely and accurate communication of range, pricing, and promotional information.
  • Engage with store teams
  • Work with Store Operations to review category performance and promotional opportunities and to maximise sales opportunities through product innovation and NPD.
  • Perform ongoing product benchmarking to maintain market advantage.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant commercial regulations.

About You

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in retail, wholesale buying, or a relevant commercial/trading role.
  • Proven track record of delivering results and achieving financial targets.
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and deal-closing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making ability.
  • Strong numeracy is essential
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications, especially excel.
