Brief Description

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Corporation is the world's leading specialty measurement company, focussing on the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. They are searching for 2 Machining Apprentices to join their manufacturing team in Solihull.

Qualifications Required

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above in Maths and English Language, with preferably a science or engineering qualification.

Personal Qualities

Should be able to project a flexible, proactive approach, coupled with the willingness to ensure outputs are achieved.

Skills Required

  • Once trained, should be able to work independently and communicate with all levels of the organisation.
  • Highly numerate team player with the ability to work to high standards and exacting targets.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and with high levels of attention to detail.

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include: Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham; NVQ Level 3 in Engineering; A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering); In house training in line with your requirements.

Once qualified you will become a manufacturing engineer.

The apprenticeship role will be varied and will include the: Manufacture, inspect and certify components to defined specification; Support the team leaders and supervisors in meeting the departmental and site objectives; Set and operate equipment used in the manufacture of the Company’s defined products; Control, update, back up and maintain issue of CNC programmes; Monitor tool life and aid in the developing of process control by utilising pre-control & statistical process control techniques; To ensure accurate booking to production orders within SAP. In conjunction with the team leader/supervisors adopt lean manufacturing and continuous improvement opportunities to optimise productivity: Minimise change over and set up times; Actively pursue elimination of scrap & rework costs; Optimisation of machine cycle times, tool life and machine 'up' time; Assist in the development and operation of manufacture to cost. Project a flexible, proactive approach, coupled with the willingness to ensure outputs are achieved – working overtime and shifts as required; Maintain the effectiveness of the Quality system at the sites via adherence to applicable policies and procedures; Complete Quality System related actions in a timely manner according to procedures e.g. CAPA, NCR; Adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures; Compliance to good housekeeping methods and adherence to 5s to support a methodical and efficient work area.

Other Information

From year 3 of your apprenticeship you will potentially move onto a double day shift of either 6am - 2pm and 2pm - 10pm. This apprenticeship has expired.
