We are seeking a Graduate Assistant Boarding for a fixed-term position starting August 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a lively, professional and adaptable individual to join our team.
About the School and Location

The school offers a broad, high-quality education with excellent pastoral care for around 590 children aged 3-18. It is predominantly a day school but has recently started taking boarders, mainly from the Far East.
Role Description
- Job Title: Graduate Assistant Boarding
- Reports to: Head of Boarding
- Hours of Work: Residential post with duty pattern: 12 hours mid-week, 2 week-night duties (17:30-08:30), weekend rota (2 out of 3 weekends), half term supervision. Personal off duty: 24-hour period or two 12-hour periods midweek, one weekend in three.
- Holidays: Taken in school holidays (Christmas, Easter, Summer). Half term coverage required.
- Probation: Six-month probationary period.

Job Description – Principal Role
The Graduate Assistant is responsible to the Head of Boarding and plays a key role in the boarding provision, supporting boarders academically, socially, culturally and emotionally. The aim is to assist in the day-to-day running of the House, ensuring safety, good discipline and pastoral well-being. This is a residential post with ensuite accommodation.
Detailed Role:
- Work alongside the boarding and household team.
- Set a positive example as a key role model.
- Develop awareness of National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools.
- Ensure pupils' individual circumstances are identified and supported.
- Liaise with medical personnel for pupils' health and wellbeing.
- Maintain records and support academic progress.
- Promote use of English as main language.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Attend school outings and events.
- Perform any other tasks reasonably assigned.
Person Specification
Essential Qualities:
- Maths and English GCSE at grade C/4/5 or above.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with teenagers and young adults.
- Proven experience of working in a team environment.
- Commitment to the priorities and values of the school.
- Ability to work flexibly and react to demands.
- Ability to work with staff at all levels.
- Understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education and safeguarding policies.
Desirable Skills:
- Prior experience in boarding and pastoral care.
- First aid at work qualification or willingness to obtain.
- BSA qualification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to manage a busy workload and achieve deadlines.
- Ability to use initiative and work individually.
- Self-motivation.
- Sports proficiency / Coaching / Umpiring qualifications.
- EAL qualifications.
- Chinese spoken proficiency.
- High level degree in a subject offered within the school curriculum.
