Job Overview

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is looking to recruit a keen student who has a Bachelor's degree or above to act as Spanish Assistant from September 2023 to May/June 2024. The post of Spanish Assistant at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] runs from September to the end of May, although there is a possibility to extend this to June. Our Language Assistants help our A-Level Students to prepare for their spoken examinations on a one-to-one basis and they assist teachers in the department with lower school lessons. The Assistants' timetable is approximately 16 lessons of 55 minutes each and all members of the School are expected to contribute to the boarding community.

Purpose of the Job

To provide support and assistance to the Modern Foreign Languages department in both teaching pupils and offering preparation for summer exams.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • To provide individual teaching to pupils along with assistance within the Lower School lessons.
  • To assist with the Internal Exams & Summer Term exams.

Key Tasks

  • To teach 16 periods to both individual students and teaching assistant in some Lower School lessons.
  • Preparation of Upper School Spanish students for public examination in Spanish (oral component) through one on one/small groups sessions, reporting Languages/Head of Spanish/Class teachers.
  • To conduct invigilation of speaking exams GCSE & A-level.
  • To write reports inline with the school reporting system.
  • To assist pupils in the warm up room for speaking exams in the Summer Term which are often outside timetabled teaching periods.
  • To provide cover for lessons in staff absence.
  • To conduct and mark 3rd & 4th Form Speaking exams (Michaelmas and Summer Term).
  • To provide two afternoon language activities.
  • To help at one weekly language clinic.
  • To provide pre-exam oral practice in the Summer Term after classes (5:45-10pm).
  • To attend Languages Society Meetings, three per term (5:45-6:45 or 8:00-9:30).
  • To deliver talks and offer translation/interpretation for Languages Society, three per year.
  • To ensure adherence to statutory Health and Safety and Data Protection Legislation at all times.
