Senior Buyer

Main purpose of job role
Responsible for daily leadership and management of procurement team – coordination, training, facilitation and execution of operational activities and continuous improvement projects for lowest cost of acquisition. Lead supplier, risk and technical management activities and support for new product introduction. Enable and support creation of a growth and learning culture; a continuous improvement environment using lean principles and methodology to drive improved operational performance, effectiveness and delivery against KPI (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Team Management: Maintain a safe working area, prioritize resources, manage departmental targets, control day-to-day purchasing activity, support supplier issues, lead Tiered Accountability meetings, enable continuous improvement, ensure trained resource availability, provide daily supervision, support performance management.
- Procurement Strategy & Control: Ensure adherence to MRP schedule, support SIOP process, deliver pro-active supply chain participation in product development, engage with operations and engineering, ensure contracts and LTAs, collaborate with customers, create accurate RFQ and Purchase Orders, liaison with other functions, prepare monthly reporting.
- Supplier Account Management & Development: Promote SRM, control rejects and non-conformance, audit suppliers, monitor risk, identify new suppliers.
- Continuous Improvement, Cost Management and Reduction: Cost development, negotiate improved terms, target insourcing opportunities.
Essential Qualifications
- CIPS Level 4 Procurement and Supply qualified or equivalent experience
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Business, Management or a related discipline
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Desirable Qualifications
- CIPS Level 5 Procurement and Supply qualified or equivalent experience
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
Skills & Knowledge Required
Essential: Experience leading buying team in regulated environment, ability to motivate teams, performance management, ERP systems (e.g. SYSPRO), procurement of commodities, commercial awareness, negotiation capability, ability to read technical data/drawings, MS Office, understanding of AS9100 / IATF 16949 / ISO9001, Lean transformation experience.
Desirable: Mechanical component/machining procurement, execution of tiered accountability.
Experience Required
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience in manufacturing procurement
- 2-3 years’ experience within aerospace or similar high mix, low volume manufacturing environment
Personal Skills Required
The Senior Buyer is a result driven individual with flexibility, good communicator, confident in leading others, familiar with global purchasing practices, proficient in English, competent at delegation and decision making, excellent organizational awareness, compliance with regulations. Capable to manage workload independently, willing to adapt, comfortable as coach and leader, team player.
