Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and operate all automation systems for entertainment productions, including stage lifts, moving scenery, and special effects.
  • Provide technical support for shows, deck activities, talks, and other events as directed by the Production Manager.
  • Operate automation equipment during main events, ensuring smooth and safe transitions of sets and effects.
  • Assist with set design changes, cueing technicians, and prompting performers during rehearsals and live performances.
  • Manage staff within the automation section on a day-to-day basis, ensuring high-quality technical support and adherence to safety standards.
  • Coach and train team members in automation system operation and maintenance to develop technical skills within the team.
  • Attend rehearsals and band calls, ensuring all automation equipment is functional and undertaking repairs as necessary.
  • Conduct planned and preventative maintenance, cleaning, and testing of automation systems; report issues and assist with repairs or replacements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures.
  • Assist with managing production stores, including safe storage of pyrotechnics and automation-related stock.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Production Manager to review entertainment needs and technical requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of automation systems used in live entertainment or theatrical productions.
  • Previous experience operating and maintaining stage automation equipment.
  • Ability to lead and train a team effectively.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing schedules.

Desirable

  • Experience with cruise ship entertainment or large-scale productions.
  • Familiarity with pyrotechnics handling and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of integrated technical systems (sound, lighting, video) alongside automation.
