HGV Technician

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a skilled HGV Technician in Hull. Permanent position. £16-£20 per hour DOE. Overtime available.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV Technician to inspect, service, maintain, and repair heavy goods vehicles to ensure they meet safety, legal, and operational standards. The role involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out preventative maintenance, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with DVSA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and maintenance of HGVs
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
  • Perform MOT preparations, safety inspections, and defect rectification
  • Ensure vehicles comply with DVSA, health & safety, and legal requirements
  • Complete job cards, inspection sheets, and maintenance records accurately
  • Use diagnostic equipment and manufacturer-specific software
  • Respond to breakdowns and carry out roadside repairs when required
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Work closely with fleet managers and drivers to report vehicle issues
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times

  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of health & safety procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Valid HGV driving licence (Category C or C+E) – desirable
  • Previous experience working on HGVs or commercial vehicles
  • Knowledge of DVSA standards and MOT testing requirements
  • IRTEC accreditation – desirable but not essential

Working Conditions

  • Workshop and roadside environment
  • May involve shift work, nights, weekends, and on-call duties
  • Use of tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic systems
