Construction Risk Engineer – Technical Lead

Role Description
We are looking for a Construction Risk Engineer, Technical Lead, having a focus on liability exposures. Experience with CAR (Contractors’ All Risks) exposures and/or civil engineering projects, an advantage.
You will be responsible for developing the Construction risk management discipline, providing loss control expertise, support and assistance to our customers and to assist [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] underwriting in risk selection and retention.
You’ll provide ongoing co-ordination and monitoring of loss prevention activity, the servicing of assigned accounts and loss control survey work.
Passionate about your fields of expertise, you will track technical developments and share knowledge with colleagues, looking for continual improvements in risk assessment criteria and tools in close alignment with Claims and Underwriting teams.
This position would suit someone already in a similar role or looking for the next step in their career.
This is a home-based role, with travel required across the UK.
About You
- Keeping up to date with and ongoing development of your knowledge in respect of Construction risk management and the implications of relevant UK regulation.
- Liaising and collaborating with underwriting account and claims teams, aiding the development and implementation of underwriting strategy and standards.
- Development and maintenance of technical training guidance and technical manuals.
- Design and delivery of technical learning and development skills within area of specialism for the wider Loss Control team.
- Carry out technical assessments and apply risk control measures for insured risks via desk top reviews, on-site and remote surveys.
- Work with underwriting, clients and brokers to develop customised loss control engineering programs.
Essential Skills
- An experienced Construction Risk Engineer in a similar role within the insurance industry, or working in the Construction sector as a Health & Safety officer.
- Experience with CAR (Contractors’ All Risks) exposures and/or civil engineering projects.
- A strong, customer centric approach.
- Open-mindedness and curious with a commitment to remaining up-to-date with developments.
- Familiar with risk assessments, CDM, and the Building Safety Act.
- Understanding of the Joint Code of Practice (JCoP) – fire and escape of water.
- Experience with temporary works design and modern methods of construction (MMC).
- Project planning and implementation.
- High proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
- Digitalization projects and data analysis.
- Professional membership and qualification requirements: ACII, NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction / NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Management; CIOB, IRM; or equivalent.
Desirable Skills
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage.
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering with IEng, EngTech or CEng status.
