The Vacancy
We are seeking an experienced Network Migration Engineer to support a large-scale dark fibre rollout programme on a contract basis. This role focuses on the configuration of core network equipment, supporting and directing field engineering teams, and delivering the migration of sites from standard tail links and NNI circuits to dark fibre. Working from the office, you will play a key role in ensuring network changes are designed, implemented, and validated correctly, with responsibility for delivering secure, stable, and well-documented network migrations across multiple sites.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Network Configuration & Integration: Configure and manage core network equipment to support dark fibre deployments; implement routing, switching, VLANs, and segmentation; ensure correct integration of local staff networks, OSNs, and core services; work with multi-vendor environments.
- Migration Delivery: Support migration from tail links and NNI circuits to dark fibre; create and execute detailed migration plans; coordinate and support site migrations; provide technical direction to field engineering teams.
- Troubleshooting & Validation: Provide fault finding, diagnostics, and performance verification; validate network configurations; interpret network diagrams and site designs.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Liaise with project managers, field engineers, and third-party suppliers; produce clear configuration and migration documentation; ensure compliance with security, operational, and safety standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience configuring core network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, OOB devices)
- Strong experience with dark fibre networks and site migrations
- Solid understanding of network fundamentals including routing, switching, VLANs, and IP networking
- Experience working with local staff networks and OSN integration
- Ability to interpret network diagrams, schematics, and technical designs
- Proven track record in network troubleshooting and validation
- Strong attention to detail with accurate configuration and documentation
- Ability to work independently in a structured environment
Desirable
- Experience with carrier-grade equipment: Edgecore switches (OcNOS), Opengear console servers, APC PDUs and UPS systems, MikroTik routers and switches
- Understanding of fibre principles (attenuation, ILM, OTDR, IOLM)
- Knowledge of network security and access control practices
- Experience on large-scale ISP rollout or migration programmes
- Exposure to multi-vendor network environments
- Familiarity with MPLS, load balancing, and network security protocols
- Knowledge of ITIL frameworks
