Quantity Surveyor

The Role

• Commercial responsibility across residential developments (1–50 units)
• Procurement and management of subcontractor packages
• Variations, cost reporting and forecasting
• Taking-off from drawings and preparing estimates
• Use of estimating software to price and build tender submissions
• Working closely with Directors on both live jobs and upcoming schemes

This isn’t a corporate, layered commercial department. It’s a role for someone who wants exposure, accountability and progression.

What They’re Looking For

• QS with residential experience (contractor or developer background considered)
• Comfortable pricing works and carrying out take-offs
• Strong commercial awareness across the full project lifecycle
• Someone looking to progress and grow with the business
• Practical, solutions-focused mindset

Package includes company vehicle, fuel card, holiday allowance and pension.

The Company

A privately run contractor delivering residential developments across Essex and the wider region. They operate on schemes ranging from one-off bespoke houses through to developments of up to 50 units. It’s a hands-on business with direct director involvement and a steady pipeline of repeat work. The commercial team is lean - which means exposure across both surveying and estimating, not siloed roles. This would suit someone who prefers accessibility to decision-makers, genuine responsibility and the opportunity to grow with the business rather than sit in a large corporate structure.
