Role Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for a Small Animal Diagnostic Imaging Internship starting on 28th September 2026. This 12-month training position offers close supervision and mentorship from experienced clinicians, exposure to a diverse referral caseload including surgery (soft tissue and orthopaedics), internal medicine, oncology, and emergency and critical care, and hands-on involvement in diagnostic imaging across a wide range of modalities. This internship is ideal for candidates pursuing a residency, working towards further qualifications, or wishing to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in Diagnostic Imaging.

Facilities

Our in-house diagnostic imaging facilities include:

  • Two digital radiography rooms
  • Digital fluoroscopy
  • Two ultrasound machines (GE Logiq E10 and S8 cardiac)
  • Siemens 32/64-slice Go.All CT scanner
  • All images stored in a PACS system and reviewed using dedicated medical imaging software (CIMAR)

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision to perform and interpret ultrasound examinations
  • Assist with interpretation of radiography and CT studies
  • Develop knowledge through independent study and case-based learning
  • Participate in case discussions, journal clubs, and teaching sessions
  • Support the training of rotating interns and externs in diagnostic imaging
  • Contribute to clinical research projects
  • Participate in the Saturday morning discharge rota for referral cases
  • Cover occasional out-of-hours shifts during bank holidays and holiday periods

Requirements

To be eligible, you must have:

  • A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Completion of a small animal rotating internship in a multidisciplinary referral hospital

  • High standards of clinical record keeping and professionalism
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to learning
