Bereavement Support Volunteer with Children and Young People, Harrogate

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Bereavement Support Volunteer to provide one-to-one support sessions with children and young people who have experienced bereavement. The role involves using various tools and activities to help young people process their grief. Volunteers will receive full training and ongoing support. The position is based in Harrogate, on-site, for 3 hours per week, with additional time for supervision and training.

About the Role

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] provides direct support to children, young people and their families living with bereavement. Bereavement Support Volunteers are integral in helping [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] reach more children, young people and their families, at one of the most difficult times of their lives. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] offers a 12 week programme run by experienced practitioners from the service in Harrogate. The course will support volunteers in developing their skills, knowledge and confidence in supporting families at an extremely difficult time in their lives. Following completion of the training programme, Bereavement Support Volunteers will hold one to one support sessions with children and young people. Sessions are young person led, and volunteers will use a variety of tools and activities learnt in the training to encourage young people to talk, process their grief and receive support for their bereavement.

Getting Started

  • We will complete a DBS check and ask you to provide some information before you begin volunteering.
  • Once these steps are completed we will agree your start date.
  • You will then begin the training programme outlined above.
  • You will required to attend a reflective meeting following the training, providing the opportunity to reflect on the issues raised/discussed during the training.
  • Additional 'top-up' training will be offered where appropriate
