Shift Operations Controller

Purpose of the Role

As a Control Room Operator, working in Rail Services you will be part of a medium sized team who play an essential role in the 24/7 real-time operation of our on-track plant fleet, whilst gaining additional knowledge and experience of the technical and commercial activities which underpin our operations.

Where will I be based? In our Control Room at our Rugby Depot.

This role closes on 1st June, however we encourage candidates to submit their application as early as possible and not to wait until the published closing date as this can vary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and controlling the safe efficient and reliable operation of our on-track plant fleet 24/7.
  • Managing the reporting, recording and escalation of any real time issues including incidents, accidents and environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Communicating and co-ordinating with our on-site colleagues, escalating issues as necessary to on-call managers and our maintenance department on all issues affecting operational shift performance.
  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Working closely with our customers, stakeholders and service providers who support our activities.
  • Producing and distributing accurate, brief, concise operational updates and communicating clear handovers.
  • Attending all required training for the role and continuing training throughout your employment.

Person Specification

  • Has experience and confidence in using computer systems to undertake processes, record and manage safety critical data.
  • Is dynamic, driven, and professional and can perform duties safely on their own, using processes and procedures and without direct supervision.
  • Is naturally inquisitive, with the ability to interpret a range of operational data and draw conclusions on the action to be taken in a safety critical environment.
  • Has a positive attitude and thrives in a busy and pressurised environment.
  • Is a confident communicator both verbal and written, with excellent spelling and grammatical skills.
  • Understands the UK Rail Infrastructure and has good geographical knowledge.
  • Has previous experience working within a Control environment or Emergency Control Centre (Desirable).
