About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] team in a 12-month internship based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Our surgical intern program is aimed at motivated veterinary surgeons, who will play a key role in the management, monitoring, and treatment of our patients. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent veterinary graduate or an individual with equivalent experience to enhance their surgical skills in a dynamic and supportive environment. The selected candidate will work closely with our experienced surgical team, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of surgical procedures.

Our specialist surgical teams are up to date with the latest surgical techniques, and routinely carry out highly complex surgeries, enabling us to confidently take on the most challenging cases. We have fixed price packages for all of our procedures.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Veterinary Intern, you will gain valuable exposure to a referral or advanced clinical environment, working collaboratively with experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses, and support teams to deliver high-quality patient and client care.

  • Participate in surgical procedures alongside surgeons in the operating theatre
  • Assist with post-surgery discharge of pets
  • Conduct re-check appointments
  • Coordinate hospital processing for follow-up radiographs
  • Compose referral letters
  • Provide support to Out-Of-Hours (OOH) staff during on-call weeks
  • Discharge pets and admit emergency cases during weekend hospital shifts
  • Scrub into theatre for emergency procedures requiring immediate attention

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon who is keen to develop their clinical skills within a supportive referral or advanced-care setting. You’ll bring:

  • A Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS with experience working as part of a clinical veterinary team
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Clear and confident communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork and a positive and proactive attitude to learning and development
  • An interest in evidence-based veterinary medicine and clinical best practice
  • Professionalism, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in a busy clinical environment
