Independent Panel Member – Olympic Participation Agreement Panels (LA 2028 Qualifying Standards)

The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (BOA) is seeking to appoint Independent Panel Members for their Olympic Participation Agreement (OPA) Panels. This voluntary role involves serving as an independent voting member on panels to agree LA 2028 specific standards for Olympic qualification with each National Governing Body (NGB). Meetings will take place online or at the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] office, starting May 2026. Expenses incurred will be covered.

Role

The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] requires experienced performance sport leaders with knowledge of Olympic selection processes to be an independent voting member of the panel to support discussions to agree each NGBs LA 2028 specific standards for Olympic qualification. The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and the National Governing Body (NGB) for each Olympic Sport agree the specific standards for Olympic qualification embodied in a written agreement. The NGB nominates athletes and staff to the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] who then formally select [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

Person Specification

Required Experience:

  • Experience of having been in a performance leadership role in British sport
  • Experience of being involved in previous Olympic Games
  • Have strong knowledge of Olympic sport, selection policies and processes
  • Understand the varying demands on an NGB to qualify athletes for the Olympic Games

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] OQS policy and the role of an NOC

Conflict of Interest: To ensure integrity, the Independent Panel Member must not currently be a permanent employee or hold any formal role within a member NGB or any organisation that could reasonably create a conflict of interest. Any previous involvement must be disclosed.

Time Commitment

The process will take approximately 15 days in total: circa 5 days Spring 2026 (Panel meetings), 5-8 days early Autumn 2026 (Panel meetings), 2 days for follow up work.
