Waste Collector Driver

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Waste Collections Driver. Location: Harris Street Depot, [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], United Kingdom. Salary: £28,142.00 - £31,022.00 pa. Closing Date: 18 May, 2026.

Job Introduction

Make a visible difference every single day. Are you someone who likes to stay active, work outdoors and be part of a close-knit team? We’re looking for reliable, hardworking Waste Collections Driver to join our team. This is more than just a job - it’s an essential frontline service with real responsibility and real impact. Our crews are the backbone of environmental services, supporting over 200,000 households and thousands of local businesses, and we value the work they do. If you want stable employment, a great team spirit and a role where your work truly matters, we want to hear from you!

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive a HGV waste collections vehicle collecting household, recycling and garden waste across the district.
  • Maneuvering the vehicle in restricted areas. (Excellent special awareness and driving skills are essential for this role.)
  • Work as part of a supportive team to complete daily routes safely and efficiently
  • Handle a range of containers including wheeled bins, sacks and commercial bins
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are clean, safe and well maintained
  • Deliver a courteous, helpful service to residents and local businesses

Who We’re Looking For

We’re not just looking for experience - we’re looking for the right attitude. Experience in waste collection or similar outdoor work is helpful, but not essential, as full training will be provided. The ideal candidate will be: physically fit and comfortable working outdoors all year round, motivated, reliable, and team-focused with a strong work ethic, safety-conscious and aware of your surroundings, professional and respectful when dealing with members of the public. If you are interested in the role, but unsure whether you meet requirement, we encourage you to apply - we value potential, attitude and commitment as much as experience.

Why Join us?

  • 4-day working week (Tuesday - Friday)
  • Stable and secure Local Authority Employment
  • Access to a Defined Benefit Local Government Pension Scheme, with options for early or flexible retirement between the ages of 55-75.
  • Paid annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Training and development opportunities
