Join a team of experts and progressive thinkers Our Employment, Pensions and Immigration department is a market leader in the healthcare, independent health and care and local government sectors. In healthcare, in particular, we have Band 1 team and partner rankings in Chambers and Partners. Alongside our established reputation in these markets, the national department continues to grow its profile and client base in our emerging markets including the insurance and finance, commercial, higher education and housing sectors. This growing department, includes specialists in pensions and immigration. It operates as a national team and sits alongside our multi-disciplinary teams with specialists in information governance support as well as commercial and regulatory experts. The Employment department primarily acts for employers, including national and multi-national organisations, supporting them to improve their employment practices and manage workforce issues, as well as defending employment litigation and seeking to mitigate risks for clients. The role We are looking for a Solicitor to join us, based in either our Bristol, Birmingham, or Leeds office (with flexible hybrid working). The primary focus of your role will be supporting the healthcare partner leads across our substantial NHS and independent health and care practices. You will also have the opportunity to support a diverse range of national and regional clients across the other sectors in which we work. The depth and breadth of the markets in which we operate will provide the opportunity and flexibility to work on novel and complex employment law issues across both contentious and non-contentious matters. It is envisaged that you would manage your own caseload whilst working with a number of our partner leads and colleagues across all 4 of our offices. You would be advising on employee relations matters including internal disciplinary/grievance/capability processes, reviewing policies and procedures and contracts, advising on equalities obligations, conduct of and/or support on Employment Tribunals, advising on TUPE processes including inputting into drafting of commercial agreements as well as delivering training on a broad range of employment issues and supporting business development. With more than 150 new litigation instructions every year, our Employment department's litigation experience is second to none. Whether in the Tribunal, the EAT, the Court of Appeal or the High Court you will have the chance to be involved in ground-breaking employment litigation. What we are looking for from you The successful candidate will be involved in providing sound, commercial employment advice and would have the following skill set/experience:

  • A range of contentious and non-contentious employment experience, ideally gained across one or more of our key markets, including health and social care (NHS or independent), local government, financial services, general commercial, higher education, housing
  • Case management of ET claims (either managing your own caseload or supporting on more complex matters) including drafting pleadings, witness statements
  • Advising on employee relations issues, including grievances, disciplinary matters and settlement negotiations
  • A strong core understanding of equalities legislation and case-law and equal opportunities principles
  • Reviewing/drafting policies
  • Contractual advice
  • Advising on restructures/redundancy processes/TUPE
  • Undertaking transactional due diligence, often as part of a wider corporate or commercial transaction
  • Good client management skills and an interest in business development
