Commercial & Procurement Lead (BESS)

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is hiring a Commercial & Procurement Lead for BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) to manage the global procurement lifecycle and commercial activities for international projects. This hybrid role is based in London, UK. Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing & Market Intelligence
    • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Establish and lead a formal SRM program, including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs).
    • Cost Intelligence: Develop forward cost curves and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models.
    • Technology Roadmap: Partner with Technical teams to forecast BESS trends.
    • Risk Assessment: Conduct detailed analysis of cybersecurity and CNI implications.
  • Tender Leadership & Contract Negotiation
    • End-to-End Tendering: Lead global BESS tenders (RFI/RFQ).
    • Contractual Excellence: Negotiate robust EPC and O&M contracts (FIDIC/NEC).
    • Commercial Structures: Define optimal procurement structures.
  • Project Execution & Post-Contract Management
    • Commercial Scrutiny: Manage contract variations and pricing adjustments.
    • Lender Compliance: Ensure commercial variation work aligns with lender obligations.
    • Continuous Improvement: Implement indexation and performance-based incentives.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • BESS Expertise: Minimum 10 years of procurement or commercial management with deep knowledge of Li-ion battery value chain.
  • Contractual Proficiency: Advanced experience with FIDIC, NEC, JCT contract forms.
  • Global Remit: Proven track record managing high-value tenders across multiple geographies.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to translate technical problems into commercial insights.

Qualifications

  • Degree educated (Master’s in Engineering or Technical Procurement preferred).
  • MCIPS/CIPS or equivalent certification highly desirable.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages (Spanish, Italian, German, or Mandarin) are an advantage.
