Casual Kitchen Assistant

Rate: up to £12.71 per hour

Hours: 2-3 shifts per week, 8-20 hours per week

Location: St Andrews, UK

The Role

Our offering straddles two café sites and food provision from our Main Bar. We also deliver a number of external catering events throughout the year and support the local community out with term time. Supervised directly by the Head Chef/Kitchen Manager, you will be a key part of the Catering team. You will be responsible for delivering a high class, value for money offering to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Arriving on time for any scheduled shifts.
  • To assist with the routine operation of the kitchen, ensuring that quality and presentation standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Preparing, selling and serving a variety of hot and cold food across our range of catering operations direct to our customers.
  • Adhere to the Health and Hygiene procedures within the catering operation.
  • Cleaning the kitchen areas on a daily basis including dishwashing.
  • Maintaining correct food storage and stock rotation.
  • Working on functions including setup and clearing up afterwards.

Rate of Pay

The current rate of pay is £12.71 per hr, there is an additional 12% included in your hourly rate in lieu of holiday pay, paid monthly.

Shifts and Availability

The role involves a combination of days, evenings and weekend working and exact shifts may vary week to week according to the needs of the operation. We are looking for staff to work 2 to 3 shifts per week and the amount of hours can vary depending on your availability and shifts available. A rough guide would be anything from 8hrs to a max of 20hrs per week. We ask all staff to provide a set weekly availability so we can allocate shifts to work for you and the operation. If you do need to request days off from work, we can be flexible with this but these are allocated on a first come first served basis. We do ask staff to be available for some shifts during our key times such deadlines, exams weeks, Freshers and Refreshers week, Christmas dinners and Graduations. There will be no shifts available during the 2 week Christmas closure period when the building fully closes down.

Uniform

You will be supplied with a Rectors t shirt and apron which must be clean and ironed for each shift. We would ask you supply your own dark/black trousers and comfortable footwear.
